Angkor Wat Temple, Siem Reap, Cambodia
The Story of "Beholding Angkor Wat"
A little known secret of visiting the world-famous Angkor Wat temple in Siem Reap, Cambodia, is that you are allowed to visit the night before your ticket date for free after 5pm. This only allowed us about 20 minutes before the temple guardians started marching the crowds by the hundreds back toward the gates, but those 20 minutes were perhaps the best of all. This was the only time in our 3 days in Angkor Wat that we were able to capture the iconic temple without any people in the photos!
In addition to the unobstructed views, going so late in the evening also meant cooler temperatures and some pretty cool storm clouds balling up. In retrospect, I'm glad my first impression of Angkor Wat came this way, because if I had seen the unbelievable masses of people that would flood every temple in the park the next day, I may have never left the hotel!
