Chesterman Beach, Tofino, Vancouver Island, BC
The Story of "Sands Through the Hourglass"
While I understand the allure of white sand beaches to the average vacationer, I much prefer rugged coastline and sea stacks as a landscape photographer. However, I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to explore Tofino from the skies and was very impressed with how these boring beaches completely came to new life from above, revealing an amazing display of natural symmetry.
Chesterman Beach was my favorite example of this, as these two coves came together to form such perfect circles that you would think it was manmade! Lining up these beaches to provide a foreground to the Clayoquot Sound and capture all that makes Tofino special in one aerial frame was an experience that I won't soon forget, and is part of the reason this little town stole a piece of my heart.
