Red Sand Beach, Road to Hana, Maui, Hawaii
The Story of "The Red Sand Beach"
This photo was taken at the otherworldly Red Sand Beach, or Kaihalulu as it is known by the native Hawaiians, on a winter morning in January of 2019. Of all the stops along the road to Hana, this was my personal favorite for the simple reason that I have never seen anything like it before!
The sand was truly a deep shade of red, especially when wet, and the water ranged between shades of turquoise, greens, and blues depending on the depth and sunlight. A spectacular hidden gem on the island of Maui with no trail markings and relatively few visitors each day. Mahalo, Hawaii!
