“Last Light on Second Beach”

Second Beach, Olympic National Park, Washington

The Story of "Last Light on Second Beach"

Knowing we had a rare day of sunny skies on the Washington coast, we decided to take the short hike to Second Beach in Olympic National Park to catch the sunset.  With time to scout, I realized that the sun would come down perfectly in that small keyhole slot, giving me a brilliant sunstar and hopefully a fiery sky...

Unfortunately, the infamous Pacific Northwest marine layer had other plans.  As the sun started to lower, it found its way behind the thick, distant fog bank... never to return.

Luckily, I decided to shoot as it receded just in case my picture perfect moment never manifested.  While I absolutely love how this one came out, I will be back for that "perfect" photo one of these days...
